About Safe Sea Lebanon

Our mission

Safe Sea Lebanon is a national campaign for coastal and swimmer safety. We work to separate boats and jet skis from swimming areas, document maritime incidents with verifiable sources, and push for enforceable safety standards along Lebanon's entire coastline.

Why the campaign exists

Swimmers in Lebanon share the near-shore water with motorboats and jet skis with almost no marked separation, no consistent buoyed swimming zones and little enforcement. People are injured and killed. The campaign began after a boat strike on swimmers at Raouché (Pigeon Rocks) in Beirut — the first case we are pursuing — but the problem is national, and so is the campaign.

National scope

We cover the whole Lebanese coast, from Aarida in the north to Naqoura in the south, across every coastal governorate. Raouché / Pigeon Rocks in Beirut is our first case, not our only one: the coastal safety map, the directory of coastal sites and the incident archive are built to hold every locality.

Independence

Safe Sea Lebanon is independent and non-partisan. We are not affiliated with any political party, sect, government body or commercial operator, and we take no position in party politics. We work with municipalities, ministries, security services, NGOs and beach operators wherever they will act on swimmer safety.

How we verify evidence

Every published record carries its source. A coastal record is only marked verified when a named, citable source and a human reviewer note both exist. Incident records are published only after moderation; reporter identities, private notes and unreviewed material stay private. We separate existing Lebanese law from international standards and from our own campaign proposals, and we say clearly which is which. We do not assign blame or criminal responsibility to named individuals.

Governance and funding

The campaign is run by a volunteer core team with contributions from coastal residents, lifeguards, divers, maritime professionals and legal researchers. It is currently unfunded and receives no political or corporate money; work is contributed in kind. Any future funding, partnership or legal registration will be published on this page.
